A report by British think-tank Reform, as highlighted in MyMoneyBlog, calls we under35ers the "iPod generation" because we are:
Insecure
Pressured
Overtaxed
Debt-ridden
Says Nick Bosanquet of Reform, "Young people are not getting a fair deal." They must now pay for their own higher education and save for their retirement, while supporting an aging population.

In recent years colleges have spent thousands of dollars on job listing websites such as erecruiting.com and Monstertrak.com. Many young people (and many ’not so young people’) have wasted entire submitting resumes to listings on Monster.com, HotJobs.com and CareerBuilder.com. However, the percentage of alumni actually getting a job from these online sources is never reported. Why? The answer is that the chance of landing a job on the internet is EXTREMELY low. Furthermore, colleges do a disservice to their students and alumni by not addressing the facts.
The Facts: 80% of the jobs available at any one time ...
The Wall Street Journal ran an article on Thursday about recent efforts taken to cut the cost of academic textbooks. According to the article, textbook prices have been rising at twice the rate of inflation in recent years (we think it might even be higher!). Efforts have been made to charge more using ’bundling techniques’ where students are forced to purchase CDs or study guides along with the actual textbook. Also, publishers have increased the frequency of their updates (think 11th edition) to an annual basis, rather than every few years.
People are noticing. Last week, a congressional advisory committee held ...
Each Friday we will highlight a company, website, or application that helps our readers save time or money. This week, as appearing in TechCrunch, we feature the website Retrevo. Retrvo allows users to search for information on conumer electronics (think digital cameras and printers). The smart search will find the product manuals associated with the product, display information from manufacturer's websites and then scour blogs and forums for professional reviews. If you are looking to make a major purchase, or if you just need that information on how to shoot a picture at night on your new Sony - this ...

Social networking is a very hot topic among young professionals and college students because social networks are engaging and they are fun. Because of this, millions of young people subscribe to various networks such as Facebook or MySpace or Friendster. And because millions of young people subscribe to them, other thousands of people are trying to make money off the popularity of these networks. Simple.
However, for most fickle 20 somethings the 'shelf life' of a social network is inherently limited, unless the user receives some value that compels them to stay on the site. It's sort of like ...
Today we highlight an organization whose product could revolutionize the face of education and entrepreneurship in the developing world. Their idea though simple, is far reaching in scope. As highlighted in this week’s Economist, Ndiyo (a company founded by Quentin Stafford-Fraser, a former researcher at AT&T) is working to bring computers to the poorest parts of the world. Their business model is so simple that some simply shrug it off; but its beauty is in its simplicity. As stated in the their blog, Ndiyo technology allows a standard PC running Linux, the open-source operating system, to be shared by between ...

The travel blog, gizmodo.com, points to a great piece of information created by TravelPost. TravelPost wrote up a guide to the wireless internet connections at major U.S. airports.
This guide shows what type of Wi-Fi is available, the providers and the prices of said Wi-Fi.
IntelliGrad likes to highlight young people who are working to make a difference. We'd like to draw readers' attention to Derek Donnelly, a 26 year old democrat who is currently running as a candidate for Connecticut's 61st House District. Derek is running against long standing Republican incumbent Ruth C. Fahrbach. Derek is a graduate of James Madison University and most recenty, a graduate of the University of Connecticut's School of Law.
What is impressive about Derek is not only that he has been engaged in politics since graduating from JMU (Derek worked on Capitol Hill for former House Minority Leader Dick ...
