A trait that I constantly look for in people I work with is decisiveness, or the ability to make decisions. This is one of the most important life skills a young person can develop; learn to make a decision and be confident in it. More often than not, it seems that peoples’ waffling over ’what to do’ gets them in more trouble than making the wrong decision and sticking by it take John Kerry’s Presidential run as an example“ he was a waffler and it cost him the presidency.
Admittedly, I am one of those people who occasionally struggle with decision ...
Here is an interesting concept:
Dr Bill Ashraf, a professor of microbiology at Bradford University is getting rid of in-person lectures completely. Instead, he's only recording the lessons for students to download as podcasts or video.
Students can then ask questions via email or text message, and the professor will respond on via his blog. Ashraf feels large lectures for the students are a waste... instead, using podcasted lectures and blogging, he frees himself up to offer additional office hours. Ashraf feels that his teaching style is far more effective because he can focus on spending more 'personal time' with students ...
We’ve been throwing around the term ’2.0’ quite liberally and it seems most people are not yet familiar with the concept. Thus, I will now try to put ’2.0’ in context that any student or young professional can understand and appreciate.Web 2.0 is all about three things:
the evolution of technology & the internet
the disruption of traditional media & communications
a focus on user engagement
’2.0’ implies a newer version, or the next phase. Sort of like the difference between Windows XP and Windows 98: a Darwinian concept with the ’surviving’ websites being those that stay most current and most interactive. Some people ...
One of my best friends is a genius and he doesn’t realize it. By genius I refer to an innovative practice that he has developed and which I am going to share with you.
What he does is that he remembers birthdays. WHAT do I mean!? Isn’t that sooo easy?
After everyone graduated from college, my group of friends all went their separate ways. One friend moved to Seattle to work on a boat, another to Idaho to be a ski bum, one to Manhattan to make millions, one to Ireland to teach basketball.
What Matt did was simple, but brilliant. Matt wrote ...
Looks like a few people have taken note of our 2.0 rankings posted the other day.
I am including a bit more information here:
How are these rankings different from other rankings? Technology-On-Campus isn't about what it used to be about. "Others" rank schools based on ’most wired’: looking at the number of computers per student and wifi access. Times have changed - technology is no longer about hardware.
Why are these rankings important? These ranking are important because they represent campuses that are staying current with new media. How a school uses technology to engage its community is equally as important as ...
Really great news for young entrepreneurs!
As covered in this New York Times article, Charles River Ventures (a venture capital firm) is now giving out small loans to promising young internet start-ups. The program called QuickStart, is offering loans of up to $250,000
Charles River’s announcement is exactly in-line with the changing times that IntelliGrad has been blogging and writing about frequently. Due to recent advances in technology, the cost of entry for entrepreneurs has never been lower: anyone can build a website, make phone calls for free, and take advantge of little to no overhead with an internet run business. Thus, ...
We have been using StumbleUpon very frequently and wanted to make you aware of our StumbleUpon page. When I finally find someone with some knowledge of WordPress I will put a link on the side.
StumbleUpon is a feature that can be added into your web-browser (FireFox, Explorer, etc) and allows you to "favorite" and review various websites that you happen upon during your daily world-wide-web surfing.
We have built up a solid collection of website reviews that we believe will be of particular interest to our readers. Please check it out and let us know if you have other suggestions
IntelliGrad's StumbleUpon ...
After doing some research IntelliGrad has arrived at what we believe to be the first 2.0 Campus Rankings. We base these results on numerous factors including: innovation of alumni, innovative use of technology in teaching, school size, school location, entrepreneurship/web-related course offerings, ’wiredness,’ endowment and number of students, student voice/engagement. Please take this with a grain of salt“ we invite comments, feedback and suggestions. I’m sure we have missed some great schools
