This evening I received an email from nextNY asking me to remove my posts because they did not adhere to their blog policy of explicitly citing the keyword ’New York’ in each entry.
Specifically they cited my last two posts as being ’in violation’ of this policy. After thinking about the manner in which I was approached, I have decided to end my affiliation with nextNY until the policy is changed and someone acknowledges that my entries were in fact germane to the purported mission of nextNY.
My first post was about nPost.com a website that is dedicated to posting startup jobs ...
Beautiful weather here in DC today! I apologize for the typos in yesterday’s blog entry ’“ my spell checker must not have been running properly and I have become a lazy writer as I have become more and more busy. From this point forward for anyone who points out blatant misspellings or typos I will highlight a website of your choice and hopefully drive a little traffic that way. This does not apply to past entries however.
I just got back from lunch with a friend and figured I’d pop into Kramer Books, a famous DC bookstore. I ran into ...
I was recently poking around on Google Trends and Alexa and ran a few searches that provided surprising results.
The buzz on the blogosphere (and elsewhere) is that we are in a ’bubble.’ VC's investing like crazy, people spending money they don’t have, etc’
Well people say "numbers don’t lie," so I decided to investigate...
If it were a true bubble I would expect that the term ’web 2.0’ would be getting more and more airtime as the ’dumb masses’ begin to learn what it means and write about it. Unfortunately Web 2.0 is in a major correction pattern (see major dip ...
I rarely write about images, but when I came across this today I had to post it.
Here are my questions:
Do you find this image funny?
Is this image racist?
Would this image be less racist and/or more humerous if a white person such as Eminem or Vanilla Ice was clearly pictured?
Comments encouraged’
I recently had the privilege of interviewing Nathan Kaiser the founder of nPost.com. nPost is a website dedicated to promoting entrepreneurship by offering niche job postings focused on the startup community. The site also offers numerous resources (see below) and serves as a gathering place for the startup community. nPost is the best site I have come across for job seekers or employers focused on early stage companies ’“ clearly the best type of jobs out there.
Here’s why you should check out nPost.com:
Job Seekers: Job seekers will love nPost because it is niche and focused. The only job listings ...
In the mail several days ago I received a free copy of a new magazine called ’Motto Magazine.’ It has similarities to FastCompany in that it attempts to prove that business people can be passionate, happy, socially-responsible and still make a killing! The key difference seems to be that they are more niche than FastCompany and focus more on the corporate social responsibility theme. The advertising is all relevant and includes both NetImpact and Calvert.
The mag is founded by Kevin Salwen (interviewed here) and Anita Sharpe both former Wall Street Journal writers. It seems the founders are friends of Rex ...
Brand Reputation is a discipline separate from that of traditional branding campaigns. Brand Reputation recognizes that due to increased transparency and access to information, ’traditional branding’ whether through mission statements, marketing or affiliations can easily be verified and evaluated. Thus reputation plays an increasing role in keeping organizations honest and forcing them to take definitive actions, rather than simply making public statements. Both consumers and employees are getting into the game.
Brand Reputation is sort of like ’Brands 2.0.’ Until recently brands had largely been considered ’intangible’ concepts. Accounting contributed to this conception by identifying ’goodwill’ as the excess over ...
"Brand Reputation Optimization" is a new term that I am coining. I encourage you to read this introduction, to email it to a friend and to discuss it with me. I will also be publishing a more detailed white paper on the same subject.
Brand Reputation Optimization (BRO for the acronym lovers!) refers to how an organization best positions its brand for long-term sustainability and success. Success in this case refers both to the bottom line and to applying socially responsible business practices sometime referred to as corporate social responsibility. Since the web is now the preferred method by which ...
So a debate I had today was over what constiutes a new product: is it really just marketing? Or, is there a true distinction?
Take for example any number of the social networking platforms that exist. If one says "hey let us design a social network for your customers" and then comes back and says "we can also sell you a solution for your events"..... and then once again "we can sell you a solution for your alumni" - are those all unique products? Is a product unique even though it's created using the same platform as another product?
As an analogy, ...
Today was my 27th Birthday.
DC hasn't been the same since most of close friends left this past summer.
When I read Fred Wilson's post about moving as a kid, I thought of my similar experiences moving multiple times while in grade school and high school. I viewed each of these moves as a chance to reinvent myself. In fact, I vividly recall feeling guilty for having bought a t-shirt that was the same one frequently worn by the most popular kid "Rickey," at my old school. I think I even tried to replicate a few of his mannerisms - damn he ...
