Someone was kind enough to submit my blog to Digg two days ago. This morning when I first noticed the link, I went to the article and viewed a comment that had been left. After reading the response, I felt compelled to respond...here is the exchange in its entirety:
Phibre States: ’the bright young things sam fawns over really need to be dropped off in the middle of the gobi.’
My Response:
Phibre: This is Sam. I certainly value your opinion, but I ask you why these ’bright young things’ that I fawn over out to be ’dropped off in the Gobi’ ...
A friend of mine had THIS LINK showing in her GChat window, so I checked it out and loved it.
It's sort of a combination between graphic art and music...very "2.0" - make sure you have your volume on for this one. The art is by Eric Natzke, but I'm not sure who does the music. I will update this entry when I find out...
Also check out Tobey's Valentine (bottom) and the artist's brief bio on Flickr.
Based on my personal experience, I estimate that the answers to 45% of all book-based academic questions (from college level, up) can be found free online if you know how to really search well. I estimate another 10-15% can be found online at a cost of under $15, these are mainly essays and case studies.
What does this say about the current state of education?
Furthermore, what can be done about this?
Publishing new editions of textbooks each year isn’t the answer.

Occasionally I stumble upon true gems online. BrightestYoungThings.com appears to be just that (at least for the DC hipster crowd). It's about time someone knowledgeable on good music, art and style - spiked with a killer sense of graphic design - exposed some of DC's great underground events.
It seems the BYT blog debuted here, followed by the much improved current version here. You can check out some of the pictures on Flickr from recent gatherings: quite the attractive crowd. I couldn't find much info on the author, but then again, I didn't look that hard.
The blog seems to cover excellent ...
Interesting reading in this month’s Fast Company. P.47 features a side note on design guru Mark Dziersk who teaches at Northwestern University’s Master of Product Development program.
To get his designers to think ’outside the box’ Dziersk is known to give quizzes on such topics as ’Name 15 ways a cat is like a refrigerator.’
Normally during the first go-round when individuals work independently, the results are terrible, typically with each student only producing a few quality connections. Yet, when students are put in groups of three something happens. Their creative juices get flowing and the connections (examples: can be black ...

I received the following email from TurboTax this afternoon:
Dear TurboTax Customer,
We are contacting you to make sure that you have successfully electronically filed your 2006 tax return. As you may know, Intuit’s electronic filing system experienced significant delays on April 17.
We currently show you have finished preparing your return but have not completed the process to submit it to the IRS and/or your state agency electronically. If you have mailed your tax returns to the IRS and, if applicable, your state, or if you have used another preparation method, please disregard this email.

Here is my simple hack for eliminating unnecessary emails.
Treat each email like a phone call.
For example, the email ’Dude you want to grab drinks on Friday at McFlannery’s’ 8pm?’ would also work as a phone call to that same buddy.
Your buddy might then respond via email, ’Sure, McFlannery’s at 8pm is perfect.’ Again, this works as a phone call. At this point unless you respond to say you need to change plans, it should be obvious that the plan is set ’“ especially if it’s a friend and not a new business associate.
If you were now to respond, ’killer, see ...
Howard Linzdon, the master-mind of Wall Strip, has an amazing blog post I ran across a few days back. In the post Howard freely shares some brilliant concepts that I believe are still ahead of their time. In my post Brand Reputation Optimization (BRO) I suggested that brands could be monitored on various online websites in order to ascertain trends, customer feedback, etc’ An example would be the CIA’s use of Facebook, or Google’s Zeitgeist.
In his post, Howard explains how he used several applications and strategies to keep tabs on Crocs (CROX) and in so doing was able to reap ...
