Obama on the High Tech Jobs of Tomorrow

by Sam on August 28, 2008

“We measure the strength of our economy not by the number of billionaires we have or the profits of the Fortune 500, but by whether someone with a good idea can take a risk and start a new business, or whether the waitress who lives on tips can take a day off to look after a sick kid without losing her job – an economy that honors the dignity of work.

The fundamentals we use to measure economic strength are whether we are living up to that fundamental promise that has made this country great _ a promise that is the only reason I am standing here tonight….I will eliminate capital gains taxes for the small businesses and the startups that will create the high-wage, high-tech jobs of tomorrow.”

-From Barack Obama’s Acceptance Speech at the DNC. Full text of speech available here.

Good stuff.

That would be a very interesting thing to do. I'm not entirely sure how that will affect most small business owners, or what he will even classify as a small business, but it does sound promising. I just wish there were more specifics in these types of speeches (or at least links in the text of their speeches that we could follow to the actual plan so we could see what they are thinking).

Hey Joe,

That's a great point. It would be awesome if someone took a vimeo
video or viddler so that you could fast forward to watch certain parts
of the speech…couldn't agree more. In my case, I simply don't have
the time :)

As a US citizen we need to take care of our on first. I understand there are others in other countries that need our help. However, it is now time for us to pull back and concentrate on our own citizens, they all need houses, jobs, new way of dealing with prisioners, drugs, immigrants. We can not cure the world ills. If the movie stars or millionaires want to try then more power to them, but charity begins at home.
