Don’t Let The Dishes Soak

One of the things I have always struggled with is why anyone would let the dishes ‘soak.’ To me it’s simply an excuse to delay the inevitable: cleaning the dishes and putting them away.

We often use this same approach in many different areas of life. We delay paying bills, delay having crucial conversations or even delay in asking for what we REALLY want. In an economy like this, it’s not the guys who beat-around-the-bush who are going to keep companies or investment opportunities moving forward. No. The persons most likely to succeed are those who ask for what they want, evaluate opportunities rationally and execute on the possible, not the probable. It’s about leadership and initiative.

If you’re letting the dishes soak, suck it up and get it done.

    Sorry, but that's bunkum.

It's more efficient to wash up larger batches, in terms of time, water and energy. Washing up has considerable startup and shutdown costs – running hot water, cleaning the sink and sponge afterwards, drying hands.

And soaking dishes can make it much faster to wash them up – one minute instead of five for burnt on food.

    Yes, I know I'm missing the point…

    Hey Bobby -

It's a metaphor on the general environment but I appreciate the comment…though I'm not sure I agree :)

When I lived in the Mountains of Colorado, I let the dogs lick the dishes clean. No excess water use; just spray cleaner (water plus soap) and wipe!

    Try that metaphor.
