Twittering Micro Voicemails

Twittering Micro Voicemails

Yesterday I was thinking how often I receive Tweets where I want to follow-up or respond, but in a more personalized manner and/or with greater detail than is possible with only 140 characters of text.

So…I was thinking that it would be great to have the ability to follow-up on a Tweet by leaving a micro-voicemail that could be archived and accessed online (GrandCentral Style). I would simply call the person’s mailbox and leave a message of 1 minute or less. While I could conceivably call the person’s mobile phone, I increasingly find phone calls involve a level of interruption and engagement unnecessary for most idea exchanges and follow-ups. Much of this stems from the phone’s antiquated conventions around politeness that result in needlessly long conversations.

If done properly, the straight-to-voicemail approach would still allow for an exchange of micro messaging while maintaining or even integrating with Twitter’s flow.

    So basically you want to be able to call someone and have it go right to voice mail. It's like our phone system at work.

    No, it's a separate from voicemail, and definitely not like our phone system.

    This is an online system for leaving micro messages; it would only be accessible via the web

    It would streamline the contact using voice mail. Perhaps with friends you want to be closer to, you could arrange something on your own. Being one who wants that space that encourages more than superficiality I guess I don't understand exactly why you don't want to email with those you want to interact with more.

    @george

    Hey George – you don't see a difference between email or talking on the phone? Much has to do with context and delivery: hearings someone's voice is more personal, but also allows for more context like sarcasm

    Why make a separate system that sounds similar to going straight to voice mail? One of my market ing co-workers has been pushing us to improve efficiency by using marketing vehicles that we already have rather than creating new ones.

    What advantage does this have of basically leaving a voice mail in a different platform?
