No Facebook IPO in 2010: The Writing Was On the Wall

by Sam on January 26, 2010

As I pointed out in a tweet a week ago — the fact that Dave Morin left Facebook seemed a clear signal to me that Facebook would not IPO in 2010. It’s awesome that Dave is pursuing his dream, but also says something interesting when you read between the lines.

I'm pretty sure Dave had been there for over 4 years and was fully vested when he left. He's got his stock already and will get his pay day regardless. He had little financial incentive to stay.

that's possible, but I still find it hard to believe he'd have left if
an IPO would have happened in the next 6-10 months.

That was my only point — that there would not be an IPO in 2010, not
whether or not he's fully vested

Oh..Dave will be starting something similar and will make a big hit I guess. But its not a big deal for him.

An IPO would ruin facebook. Users would take a back seat to shareholders. Look at how fast myspace has went downhill. That's what would happen to facebook if they take on public investors.
