On Thursday I had the privilege of attending an event thrown for Daniel Squadron, a 28 year old Democrat currently running for State Senate. I’ve met Daniel a few times over the last few years and like him a lot. He understands that most people, especially younger folks, don’t know or particularly care about state government. However Daniel’s not afraid to give you an earful on why it does matter. New York State government used to be a leading force in key legislations. He'd like see it return to its once prominent form. In contrast, current turnout for state elections ...
Why doesn't Yahoo Maps show subway stops by default? I am visiting with an IP lawyer this morning and I need to know how to get there...Yahoo does me no good. Also, why does Yahoo only have a "Send to Email" and not a "Send to Phone" so I could SMS the info? Grrr...

Recently someone wrote me asking for advice on how to break into the world of consulting. I thought the best way to address this was through a post on my personal experience...
When I was 24 I lost my job. I won’t get into specifics, but it was a difficult time because everything I had worked so hard for suddenly seemed to have been stripped away from me. At the time I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I did not want to put my trust into another corporate experience for a long, long time. ...
My friend Chris invited me to a talk this morning at the Cornell Club in Manhattan entitled, "Engaging the media in a brave new world."
The talk featured Sharon Tolpin, Senior Vice President, Articulate Communications, and Erick Schonfeld, Co-Editor of TechCrunch.com. Honestly, I got very little out of the talk but what struck me was what happened at the panel's conclusion: the moderator asked everyone to write on the back of a business card two types of people they want to be introduced to. The Club then promised to connect everyone to one of those people within a week.

Many of my friends are in the fortunate position to have stable, well-paying jobs. Several of these friends have recently come to the realization that while saving money is good, what they should really be doing is growing money – not simply saving it. Along those lines, the impending social security crisis and the power of compounding are concepts most understand.
Several people in the past couple weeks have asked me what they should do with their money since simply ‘saving it’ is inadequate. Why they ask me, I am not sure. Perhaps it’s because I have an MBA, ...
I'm composing this post on a Blackberry while in the woods of New Hampshire, so apologies for any sloppieness!
This weekend has given me an opportunity to read several articles on the state of Fed as well as a post by Paul Kedrosky on why the tech sector may not be immune to a recession.Overall I'm not as optimistic on the economy's outlook as I was several months ago. Indeed I am border line worried.
At my grandfather's 90th birthday dinner last night he spoke about the difficult economic conditions he grew up in during the 1930's and then treated us all ...
The other day my roommate and I used Google Maps to look up the address of a bar where we were meeting friends. The image above is the location our search returned.
Clearly, 14 Orchard Street in New York City is not located in New Jersey.
Google isn’t perfect. The more we come to rely on it, and other web-based companies as sources for critical information, the more scary such results are.

Update: Just looked at at my feed reader and Venture Chronicles is reporting that Gmail is borked...that's ironic timing
I have been struggling to think of a way to capture many of the interesting things taking place in my life as an entrepreneur. I think friends and family (and some readers) will find these experiences a much better way to connect with and understand what I've been up to (along with Ben and whole slew of the interesting characters that comprise the Heights Media Group ensemble).
However, I do not wish to publish these personal stories publicly as they may include personal infromation that I don't care to share with clients, or have freely passed around the internet.
If you are ...
I'd like to compile a list of NYC based Twitter-ers (those using Twitter.com) who have a predilection for startups.
I was so busy in 2007 that I wasn't able to attend many (maybe any?) NYC tech events. 2008 will be different. I’d like to get more connected. I’d like to have more of an ‘online community’ to contribute and learn from. Twitter will be starting point 1.
In compiling this list, please drop your Twitter handle and/or link in the comments below
Here is my handle: squasher98. Just click “follow”
